Ramada by Wyndham Medicine Hat

The pool was a great addition to our family trip, and we really appreciated how accommodating the front desk was, especially Singh. The rooms were clean and nice, and the continental breakfast was amazing. Even on a busy Sunday, the attendant managed everything smoothly, welcomed us, and made us comfortable in the crowded dining area. I enjoyed the stay and appreciated the effort from the staff. I’ll definitely be back!

I left the Ramada by Wyndham in Medicine Hat feeling unsafe and disappointed, and I won’t return. After about 20 minutes in the room, I went to the desk and asked for a refund. Singh was friendly, but said I’d have to contact booking.com because that’s where I’d booked. booking.com later said they couldn’t reach an agreement with the hotel, so no refund was issued, not even a partial one. I paid $240 for a room I couldn’t stay in and that clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned or cared for. The first thing I noticed inside was a strong, stale, heavy smell. The room walls were badly worn, with dents, holes, chipped paint, and stains. The carpet was dirty and had loose debris, and there were fruit stickers on the wall, what looked like dried food, and what I can only assume was snot or boogers. The outlet and phone jack were pulled out, though I don’t know whether they worked. The toilet seat was broken and nearly coming off, and the shower curtain was stained brown. I was nervous before seeing the room because the outside looked run down and unkept. Getting to the room didn’t help. Singh gave clear directions to drive around back to the stairwell, but it was dark and grungy, with uneven, rough concrete steps that were hard to climb with bags on my shoulders and my hands full. The key card opened both the outside door and my room. I had only one key as a solo traveler, and I don’t know how the cards are programmed, but that left me questioning my safety. As a woman alone in Medicine Hat for the first time, I felt uneasy. The hallway was dirty and poorly lit, too. I went to the Hampton Inn & Suites in Medicine Hat after leaving. They took me in with no notice and no questions. The room was spotless and smelled fresh, and I wasn’t afraid to walk outside alone, even in the dark. My verdict: 👎👎 for Ramada, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for Hampton Inn & Suites. Skip Ramada and go to The Hampton!

The pool was great, and the place was very clean, quiet, and safe. Ali and the front desk staff were helpful, and the maintenance team was often around tidying up. Some rooms are being refurbished, and the building could use a bit of lipstick, but I’d definitely recommend staying here.

The whole place was nasty, and nothing felt clean. My toilet wasn’t secured to the floor, and I had to step into the tub to shut the bathroom door. The pool was okay, but there were no towels. When I asked for some, staff said no, then pulled used towels from the dirty laundry bag and handed them to us right in front of me. That’s when I knew we’d picked the wrong place. They charge for the room a day before arrival, because once you get there, you’ll run. Breakfast was okay, not great, and there was no fresh fruit. Book somewhere else!
