I booked at the Sigma because a family member’s health was declining. After checking in, I looked at the room before bringing in my suitcase. The toilet was dirty, the sheets stained, furniture covered in cup rings, and there was still food mess on the counters. The heater was noisy, and instead of smelling clean, the room smelled like cigarette smoke. I asked the front desk for a refund, but they refused and offered to move me. The second room also had a dirty toilet and a gross, stained mattress. They denied my refund again and didn’t offer to let me speak with management. I emailed management and told the front desk I wouldn’t be staying.

I called Sigma Inn at Melville in early December and, with my CAA discount, was charged $217 for the cheapest room, which seemed pretty high. I had to cancel my December 27 booking three weeks ahead because something came up, and they still charged just under $20. Other hotels usually charge for cancellations when you’re much closer to the booking date. I’m very unhappy with Sigma Inn.

We travel a lot and found this place while passing through Melville. The beds were great and not saggy, and it was nice to have a kitchenette with a full-size fridge. The continental breakfast was okay, with great waffles, though the rest could be laid out better. It gets a bit cramped to move around when it’s busy. The shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispensers were empty, which was disappointing when I’d forgotten to bring my own. Otherwise, it was a great place to stay overnight.

I stood in the lobby for 25 minutes and called several times, but nobody came out or answered. I knocked on the door behind the desk and must have woken the guy up. He came out acting like he was making reservations, then made us wait another 15 minutes before we finally got rooms. What a joke.

I’ve been staying at the Sigma Inn for the last two weeks while working with a nearby community, and I’ve really enjoyed it. The kitchenette is especially handy on a longer work trip: it has a regular-sized fridge, two burners, a sink, and a microwave, so I could bring my own food. The rooms are quite nice and were cleaned daily, which was good to come back to after a long day. Breakfast is free and has bagels, toast, waffles, cereals, microwave breakfast sandwiches, muffins, other pastries, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, apples, and oranges, plus tea, coffee, juice, hot chocolate, and milk. There’s plenty of parking at the front and back, with truck parking along the side. The location is convenient, right off the highway, but I couldn’t hear traffic from inside the rooms. A very pleasant stay. I’d stay again if work brought me back to the area.
