MountainView Hotel Merritt

I appreciated how friendly the front desk staff were, and the room was clean enough that I’d consider staying one night again. It was very small, though, and so was the bathroom. The tissue box had only one sheet left, with no refill or extra toilet paper. The shower drained slowly, leaving me standing in a shallow pool of water for most of it. The room felt worn, and I thought the price was high for what was offered. The AC looked ancient, was noisy, and left me wondering about the filter. The fridge had been switched off to save energy, which was inconvenient. Soundproofing was only so-so. From about 8 to 11 p.m., three or four men below me talked loudly and played music. I called the desk at 10; the music stopped soon after, but the talking continued until around 11. It stopped just as the front desk closed, which made me wonder if they were friends or relatives of the staff waiting there. It was just a one-night stay, and despite those problems, the staff were kind and the room was clean enough for me to consider coming back for one night.

The room was clean, which matters, and the woman at the desk in the morning was fine. Still, this was far from what we expected after reading the other reviews, and we were very disappointed. We were tired, so we took the room even though the man at reception was rude and hard to understand. When I asked if he would match an online price, he said he didn’t believe in that, which we took to mean he thought the lower online price was a lie. The room was basic and very cold. We turned up the window heater/air conditioner and added a blanket, but it took a long time to warm up, so we didn’t sleep peacefully. The bathroom fan came on with the light and rattled and shook as if it might fall out, so there was no quiet trip to the bathroom during the night. Breakfast was a very basic continental spread, mostly carbs.

We arrived late and still got a warm welcome. The rooms were simple, clean, and great, and breakfast was lovely. A 10/10 stay!

The photos online made the hotel look older than it felt in person. It had clearly been updated recently and seemed much fresher and newer. Everything was spotless and well cared for, and the price was really good for what we got. The friendly, welcoming staff made check-in and the whole stay pleasant. We’d happily return.
