The pool indoors was fantastic and suited the grand setting, with a comfortable temperature that meant we didn't need to warm up afterward. The hot tubs were barely bubbling and only lukewarm, though. Outside, the grounds were plowed well enough for walks, and it was nice seeing people biking and skating. We didn't realize curling cost a substantial fee, so we skipped it. The winter activity information online, and all the advice to reserve, made us expect a busy season. Instead, staffing was reduced and the employees seemed run off their feet, with some activities unavailable. At dinner there was only one server for 7 covers. The restaurant's reputation sounded either wonderful or overhyped, and we found it overhyped: our order was forgotten, and 15 minutes later, when the server came back to take it again, we just ordered entrees and gave up on the cocktails and appetizers. The food was fine, nothing special. We did enjoy a couple of hours by a roaring private fire with spiked hot cocoas. The outdoor fires weren't being looked after, but the front desk insisted on sending someone to set one up for us. A light snow made it feel magical. Driving up through the picturesque setting was awe-inspiring, and the majestic multi-story stone fireplace in the lobby kept that feeling going. Check-in was friendly and quick, and our king suite was very nice. All in all, it was a great visit, and we'd like to return in summer for a completely different experience.

We had a great dinner and brunch the next day, and sitting by the roaring fire was lovely. The grounds have beautiful walking paths. Getting a drink at the bar wasn't always easy, and the line was frustratingly long even with reservations. We were told everyone had to wait. Our room was really hot, and the heat didn't seem adjustable.

The huge hexagonal fireplace in the foyer is something else, especially on a cold winter day. We had lots of snow, and the ski trails were groomed nicely with perfect equipment. The staff were attentive and friendly, the food was delicious, and we loved the spa. Such a great place for a family holiday, in a lovely location. We'll definitely come back.

I've photographed weddings for years, and Fairmont Le Château Montebello is one of my favorite venues. The staff are professional, attentive, and genuinely wonderful to work with, and the food is excellent for guests. The interiors and grounds both make for timeless, editorial-looking images. Reception spaces have darker, more dramatic light that gives photos warmth and a cozy, intimate feel. The venue offers nearly endless creative options and suits documentary-style wedding photography beautifully. Getting ready in the hotel rooms also makes for a calm, stress-free start, which helps create more natural moments and images. The venue flows effortlessly in any season.

We recently hosted a very exclusive couples relationship retreat at Calumet | Falls - Retreat & Spa, just a few minutes away on the same road. Some guests stayed at the foot of Canada's highest private waterfalls, while others stayed at the Château Montebello. Both destinations were incredible, and everyone was deeply impressed. The natural beauty, privacy, and attention to detail made it easy for couples to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with each other. We couldn't have asked for a better place to hold such a meaningful retreat at the foot of the falls. I'll be back to both places with my partner next month!
