Courtyard by Marriott Montreal Midtown

The most serious problem came at checkout. While packing, we noticed one of our bags was missing. It held cosmetic supplies worth approximately CAD 3,000. We reported it to management right away, and they said they’d ask housekeeping whether it had been thrown away as garbage. That was hard to accept since the bag was heavy and clearly full of personal items and cosmetic products. After investigating, the hotel told us they couldn’t find it. Losing property of that value and offering no satisfactory explanation or resolution is unacceptable. The way it was handled showed a lack of professionalism, accountability, and care for guests’ belongings. There was also no working internet in our room. We reported it, but staff couldn’t fix it, and no one proactively offered a solution. We had to ask for a room change ourselves the next day, after spending a night without internet. I chose Marriott because of its reputation for quality and service, but this stay fell far below what I expected. Between the internet problem and our missing belongings, the experience was extremely frustrating and disappointing. I hope management takes this seriously and improves procedures to prevent similar incidents for future guests.

The lobby and conference rooms were immaculate, but the guest rooms were very outdated and didn’t meet the Marriott standard. It’s sad to see common areas prioritized over the rooms. There were marks on the walls, half the light switches didn’t work, and the hallways weren’t attended to during our stay. Outside our room, there were bits that looked like plaster and a bobby pin that were never cleaned or vacuumed. I paid $1000 for 3 nights at a mediocre hotel. I’ve been Gold for 3 years, stay with Marriot often for airline business, and have used credit and debit without a problem. At checkout I was told the property no longer accepts debit cards, and that I should always bring cash, credit, and debit on future trips. The front desk made me feel humiliated. I didn’t book here to be belittled. If I’d known I’d have this kind of experience for $1000 of my hard-earned money, I’d have chosen another brand. As a longtime Bonvoy member, I’m seriously considering not booking Marriott properties anymore. I’m shocked they’d speak to a status member that way.

It feels cozy from the moment you arrive tired, like you’ve already had a chance to rest. The design is really nice and everything is comfortable. In the photos and videos I shared, I showed some of what the facilities look like. There’s attentive service throughout, with staff taking care of each guest, answering questions in English or French, and paying close attention to requests and cleanliness. Everything I saw was spotless, and the rooms had no stains or mess. Well done, guys, keep up the great work. 👏

The underground parking was really convenient, and the elevators go straight to the rooms. I stayed for three nights while visiting Montreal and had a great time. The hotel was comfortable, and the rooms felt brand new and well looked after. A very pleasant stay, I’d definitely choose it again.
