Hampton Inn by Hilton Montreal Downtown

The one thing I really missed was having drinking water in the room. There’s just one refill station, down on the ground floor, which isn’t convenient once you’ve settled in. A few more stations on other floors or complimentary bottles would make a real difference. Otherwise, the place was clean, comfortable, and well looked after, with tidy rooms and common areas.

For one night, this was great value and better than I expected. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well equipped, and breakfast was very good. The Italian restaurant was a solid choice too. Parking was available, which was a nice bonus, and the hotel is right across from Montreal Courts.

The bed sheets were a problem from the first night. I had to ask the front desk more than four times to get a fitted sheet that actually fit. For most of our stay the room was cleaned, but on the final night they cleaned without changing the sheets or making the bed. When I asked, one staff member said the cleaner could bring sheets, but I would need to make the bed myself. I explained they’d made it on each of the previous five nights. This is a hotel, not an air b and b. After being out all day, I came back another time to find the beds unmade and had to ask twice more. Someone came to the room, but it didn’t look like the bed would be made that night. I was left thinking I’d have to sleep on the same old sheets. The service was the worst I’ve experienced, and I would never return or recommend this hotel to anyone. It’s rated two stars, but I’d give it even less.

The neighborhood could feel uncomfortable, since the hotel is only a block from a homeless area. Inside, our five day stay was okay for what it was, though the quality didn’t match the price and the hotel only barely felt like three stars despite claiming that rating. Breakfast being included was a definite plus, and the location was convenient. Cleaning could have been better. Staff made the bed and took the trash, but didn’t vacuum, and essentials like toilet paper and trash bags weren’t always replenished. The sheets were changed once, but they looked worn, and the bathtub was clogged.
