Michael, the concierge at Épik, made our first visit to Montreal feel special from the moment we arrived. We got there early in the morning, hours before the 3 p.m. check-in, and he stored our luggage and brought us snacks, tea, and coffee to warm us up in the December cold. Since we were new to the city, he also talked us through the main sights and transit, then mapped out a route with recommendations. On Christmas Eve, he even helped us get dinner reservations. The hotel is in the historic district, close enough to walk to restaurants and many attractions. Our room was cozy but spacious, with a modern bathroom, and having croissants and cappuccinos brought to the door for breakfast was a lovely touch. For the price, the stay felt well worth it. Thank you, Épik, for a memorable trip. We’d happily recommend it.

A nice place overall, though there are a few things to keep in mind. We had a hard time finding the hotel because the sign is tiny, and construction on rue St. Paul was happening right outside. We’d also assumed from the website that there was a rooftop terrace, but it turns out that’s only for one room, and the restaurant is closed. The room itself was very nice, with stone walls and old architecture. Breakfast and coffee were good too.

The location in the middle of the old town is hard to beat, and check-in started off well. We were welcomed warmly, got into our room a couple of hours early, and found a delicious brownie waiting for us. After that, though, the service felt sleepy, and the place gave us the impression it was winding down. The restaurant was always empty, and we couldn’t tell whether it was even operating. Breakfast was very basic for a hotel at this price. We got a couple of dry croissants, bottled concentrated juice, cheese and nuts, and even less than a reviewer had reported getting 18 months earlier. It was served in takeaway coffee cups and boxes whether we ate in the dining area or took it to our room. Not good. Construction was noisy just outside throughout our stay, and our room faced the work. On the first morning, workers played loud music from 8 a.m. all morning. We asked to move and were told someone would get back to us, but we had to follow up twice before being told there was no other room. The hotel couldn’t control the construction, but it could have done more to look after paying guests. We spent a lot for a place that was merely serviceable, nothing special.

The location was excellent, with an easy walk to everything around the old port and to the metro. Street crews were replacing the pavers while we were there, though that wasn’t the hotel’s fault. For what we paid in early October, the room felt underwhelming: it was small, and there’s no elevator. It was very clean. Continental breakfast came in a little basket at the room door, or you could eat in a small breakfast room off the lobby. Overall, just meh for the price.

I had the best experience at epik hotel. The rooms were the cleanest and best, and customer service was amazing. It’s in a prime spot, walkable to anything in montreal, and I walked to all my dinners. By far my favorite hotel in montreal.
