Hotel Saint-Laurent Montreal

It's an older hotel, but the room was spacious and clean, and the staff and location were amazing. We walked everywhere and loved it. The bus station is right out front. We'll definitely come back.

We needed somewhere budget friendly near my family, with clean and safe rooms and hot running water. This place did the job. The bed was comfortable, and the kitchen had most of what we needed, though I wouldn't call it fully equipped. The staff were great, and it's easy to get to, with plenty of food spots and a convenience store nearby. I'd gladly return when I'm on a budget.

Our room was ready even though we arrived before check-in, which was great. It had what we needed, including utensils, pots, and other essentials. I stayed one night with my 14 lbs dog. The location was excellent, within walking distance of most tourist spots. Underground parking was convenient, though at around $35+ it felt pricey, especially since other hotels don't charge. The $60 fee for our small dog was the main disappointment. That's the highest pet charge I've come across, since most hotels across Canada don't charge that much for small pets. Still, it was a comfortable stay in a great location.

I felt let down and uncared for after a difficult check-in and checkout. I had booked through booking.com, but my only payment card had been lost or stolen on the way to the hotel. The young receptionist was initially inflexible, insisting on a physical card or cash for the security deposit, neither of which I had. It felt as though we might be left without a room on a freezing winter night. She eventually accepted contactless payment, but increased the deposit from $100 CAD to $250 CAD and warned sternly that technical issues might mean it wasn't refunded. It felt poorly handled and showed little regard for our situation or practical solutions. At checkout we had to wait for someone to inspect the room before the deposit could be returned to my card. The other receptionist was surprised it was contactless and made a lengthy phone call to find out how to refund it that way. It took over 15 minutes, despite my telling her we had to leave to catch a train. The staff showed little concern for our comfort, leaving a very negative impression.
