Hotel William Gray

I didn’t try the gym or restaurant, but I’d definitely stay here again if I’m back in Montreal. My room was spotless and the largest I’ve ever stayed in, and the shower was so good I kept taking extra showers. The outside and interior are beautifully designed, and the staff, especially the doormen, were remarkably helpful and friendly. The restaurant smelled delightful, and the Santal 33 products were a great touch since it’s my favorite cologne.

For my wife’s birthday, the hotel had a sweet surprise dessert plate waiting to welcome us. Diego deserves a special mention: he remembered us, always waved, and spent time giving tailored suggestions for restaurants and things to see. He really went out of his way to make us feel welcome. The front desk team were also incredibly nice and had plenty of good recommendations. Our room had a superb view, and the shower made me want to upgrade mine at home. The hotel is right in the middle of Old Montreal, with beautiful architecture, landmarks, restaurants, and shops just a few minutes away. What a wonderful stay. Merci Diego!

The bed was extremely comfortable, and the bathroom was beautiful and modern with an amazing shower. Even so, I expected a nicer room for the price. Our alcove queen was tiny, with a bed on one side and one piece of furniture doing the jobs of TV stand, desk, and counter. There were maybe three feet between the bed and bathroom door, no couch or table, no dresser or drawers, and nowhere to put luggage. The website photos showed a bright, spacious room with a wall of windows, but ours had one window, about 3 by 4 feet, above the coffee maker. A sloped wall made it feel like an attic, even though we were on the third floor of an eight-floor building. Maybe it was an older section. The halls also had unexpected ramps and steps, which makes sense once you realize the hotel sits on a downhill street. After spending almost $500 for the room, we were handed an $80 breakfast bill. The restaurant staff asked whether breakfast was included only after they’d given us the bill. I said we booked through the hotel website and didn’t know, and nobody checked anything, so we paid. Writing this three days later, I can see we hadn’t added the breakfast package. I missed the option online, and the extra $10 would have saved us more than $80. Why not just include it? I assume people who miss that add-on end up paying full restaurant price.

The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room felt peaceful and relaxing. Le Labo toiletries, including Santal 33, and bath salts added a nice touch. The front desk and concierge were professional, welcoming, and helpful with reservations and local suggestions. A great stay from start to finish. I’d absolutely come back and highly recommend it.
