The central location is hard to beat, just steps from the shops on Sainte-Catherine street, with plenty of good restaurants and coffee shops nearby. The rooms were quiet and spacious, and came with bathrobes, slippers, bottled water, coffee, and tea. Parking is available by self-park or valet in the attached underground garage, with direct access to the hotel. Bar George looks stunning. The hotel staff were polite, professional, and accommodating.

If you’re particular about hotels and weighing reviews, I’d say the old section is beautiful and feels historic, perhaps dating to 1927. The entry, restaurant, and bar have lovely old craftsman woodwork, and the staff are friendly. Breakfast and brunch were good. The newer section, from the check-in lobby up to the rooms, loses that historic feel. To me, it comes across as a mix of gaudy, tacky, and cheap. The electric fireplaces, glossy faux-wood veneer on walls and doors, and bright white lighting all add to that impression. There’s a strong synthetic fragrance in the lobby. The rooms have gaudy rugs, lots of AV tech, a cold minimalist feel, and cheap furniture. The faucets have little fake rhinestones, and the fake alligator-skin couch was torn. I asked for chamomile tea bags in the room, but they didn’t have any and seemed confused by the request. I thought that was a reasonable thing to ask at a five-star hotel. It is expensive, and I don’t feel the price matches what you get. Despite being described as five-star, I wouldn’t compare it to the Ritz and wouldn’t stay again. I would return to and recommend the Ritz, though. Stay there, then come by this cool bar for a drink at night. For dinner, check out ALMA, DAMAS, HENI.

I booked for the convenient location and ended up liking the hotel much more than expected. Everything was clean and polished, and the concierge service was especially helpful. The front staff were warm and friendly. I’d definitely recommend this hotel if you’re staying in Montreal.

We came around 1pm and the helpful front desk was able to arrange early check-in. I was pumping, so they also found a mini fridge for my room and stored my breast milk in the front desk freezer. I really appreciated that. I enjoyed our one-night stay in this historic building. Bar George, a Michelin star restaurant, is on the main floor. The room had a couch, a heated bathroom floor and toilet seat, a rainfall shower and bathtub, plus complimentary chocolates and water, slippers, and a bathrobe.
