SENS Hotel

The staff deserve an eight out of five: they were friendly, helpful, answered questions, and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Thanks to Chrystal, Mica, and everyone who made my week in Montreal so memorable! Getting my car from valet took over an hour at the end of the night, and after everything else, that wait felt unacceptable and completely disorganized. I was already disappointed with Sens Hotel. I had reserved three rooms months ahead for a special occasion, but when I asked about a late checkout, they refused with no flexibility or consideration. Nobody had told me in advance that late checkout wouldn't be possible, even though we'd booked so far ahead and were clearly there for an event. Checkout morning was extremely stressful. While I was trying to get dressed, take photos, and get ready for the event, the front desk kept calling our room and rushing us. It ruined the experience and made us feel pressured and unwelcome. For a hotel that presents itself as upscale, the communication and customer service were honestly disappointing. I expected much better hospitality after booking several rooms months in advance.

I didn't try the continental breakfast, and restaurants are a bit of a walk, though you can reach them in about seven minutes. There's a good coffee shop across the street up the hill on St-Matthieu, with coffee and pastries. The gym is small but has what you need for a full workout, plus bottled water. My room had a powerful shower, great towels, a desk, fancy ceiling lamps, strong Wi-Fi for work, and a fridge. It was modern, very clean, and had hardwood floors, which was great since I'm allergic to carpet. Most of all, the front desk and cleaning staff were unbelievably nice and kind. I stayed two nights, Dec 29-31, and my brother and niece were in another room. When my niece got sick and my brother couldn't leave, I asked if they could reheat his leftovers in their microwave because it was -24 degrees Celsius with the wind chill, much too cold to go out. To my surprise, they had someone bring a microwave to his room, which was so kind and meant my brother could eat properly.

The city view from our 15th-floor room was lovely, and there was plenty of space, a nice shower, a good-sized TV, and a comfortable bed. We also appreciated the friendly staff and the convenient valet parking, which kept our car in the garage all weekend. A couple of small annoyances: there’s no vending machine, so we had to go to a corner store for water and pop, and the TV volume kept jumping up and down. We tried to keep it low so we wouldn’t disturb anyone. I’d happily stay here again.
