At $250 a night, finding this kind of condition in what was supposed to be the hotel's best suite was appalling. There was ash on the windowsill, stained pillows, and coffee cups with lip marks that looked as if they hadn't been washed in ages. The hot tub had a coating of residue. The phone didn't work, there was no nightstand by the bed, no soap or shampoo in the bathroom, and the ice bucket was dirty and had no liner. The list goes on. If it had cost a hundred dollars a night, I might have let it go. Since it's a family-owned business, I probably wouldn't go so far as to demand a refund from someone, but I'm very disappointed with the stay.

My wife and I checked out just two hours after arriving, even though an hour and a half of that time was spent visiting the falls. The room had a leak, and when we reported it, we were told it was fine. They didn't repair it or move us to a better room. The breakfast area and lounge smelled so bad that my wife felt sick. We weren't offered a full or even partial refund when we left. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

We slept well, thanks to comfortable, very clean beds and quiet bedrooms, and the staff were kind and welcoming. But the property needs maintenance, and some of it was obvious: the hot tub was empty with rust marks, the pool was too cold to enjoy, and I found dead bugs on the carpet by the window. Breakfast was very basic, though the freshly made waffles were the best part. A room booked for four should come with more than two towels and one small piece of soap. The place has potential, but in its current condition it feels pricey, and there are better options in town, so we probably won't return.

The boys had a great time using the pool table, and we all enjoyed our stay. We'll be back in the spring. Happy New Year!
