The Peninsula Inn

We arrived at 3 a.m., exhausted and cold after a bad Airbnb experience forced us to find a hotel in the middle of the night. The receptionist was waiting with a smile, as promised, and put us in a room overlooking the quietest part of the garden so we could rest. He also gave us a late checkout. The room was clean, safe, and peaceful, with a very comfortable bed and pillows. Prices in the area aren't the cheapest, but this hotel was good value for what we got. The man at reception had been friendly on the phone, answered our questions, and wished us safe travels from Toronto to Niagara. The woman working reception the next morning was just as kind. We had to leave a day early, and Gary refunded our money. This place felt like a warm hug that night. We'll definitely come back when we visit Niagara falls again.

Room 526 was clean and well kept, with no strange smells or tacky decor, and everything worked. The staff gave us outstanding service and went out of their way to make the stay enjoyable. It's no more than a 15-minute drive from Niagra Falls. I'll stay here again next time and highly recommend it.

The rooms were clean, a decent size, and the property was great overall. Weekday prices are quite reasonable. I didn't use the pool or spa, so I can't comment on those. One odd thing: the main entrance locks after 9 p.m. Late arrivals have to buzz for someone to come let them in. I understand locking the other doors at night, but locking the main entrance seems strange.

The backyard looks nice enough for a garden wedding, and the lobby is decent. It was the cheapest option when we booked, and the service was average. When I asked the front desk for vegetarian restaurant suggestions, the person there checked with the manager, who told me to “go google it.” The manager was rude. The rooms are very dated and the cleaning wasn't up to standard. The phone was old and dusty, the towels were worn, and one had a lipstick smudge. The bathroom vent was noisy and didn't work, while the AC ran loudly all night. We could sleep, but it was annoying. There's a $10 parking fee, yet the hotel says it assumes no liability for the lot. I agree you're paying for a space, but who else would park there besides guests? The hotel isn't where you'd want to park for the falls area or Clifton Hills, where most of the action is. Google reviews call it “a gem tucked away.” Tucked away, yes, but absolutely not a gem. I'd have rated it one and a half stars, but the app only allowed one or two. If you have time, read the worst Google reviews. They may be the most realistic; if you can live with the worst one, then go for it.
