The restaurant at the olde angel inn serves pub classics, and everything arrived quickly and tasted delicious. The pies were especially good, full of flavour. The peach pie and chicken pot pie both felt comforting and homemade.

Meghan made our late lunch especially enjoyable. She was down to earth, kind, fun, and professional, and her recommendations came with helpful explanations. She gave us plenty of time to try our food, then checked back at just the right moments to see how it tasted and make sure we had everything. The server who brought the food had missed my gravy, but it came while my meal was still warm. Everything was delicious and memorable. My other half had the decadent fisherman’s pie, and my roast beef dip tasted just like something I remember from working at Vicky’s pork and beef in Welland, savoury and delicious. Thanks, Meghan!

The building’s architecture and decor make it feel like stepping back in time, and every corner seems to tell part of its history. I’d suggest looking that history up yourself, since I don’t want to spoil it. The food had a wonderful range of flavors, and the team were warm, attentive, and clearly passionate about their work. That added a lot to the atmosphere. This is one of the best places I’ve had the pleasure of visiting, and I highly recommend it for the food and the setting.

I drove all the way from Toronto because I’ve enjoyed dining here before, so this visit was a real disappointment. The bartender, a blonde woman, told me to sit wherever I liked. I picked a seat, then waited five minutes without a menu or even an acknowledgment. A young male server who seemed to cover my section walked past me more than four times without noticing me, so I left. If that continues, I’m sure other patrons will leave too. Patrons should get menus when they sit down and be approached within two minutes. I work in the industry and understand a place can be busy, but it wasn’t busy this time. If the server had too much to handle, even a quick “I’ll be right with you in a few minutes” would have helped. PUB ONLY: I’d recommend hiring more diligent staff or giving the current bartenders and servers better training.
