After I got home, I discovered that the reservation had never been cancelled and I had been charged. The woman had told me the cancellation was confirmed, that she'd emailed me and called Expedia, and that I wouldn't be charged because she didn't have my card information. She said her email must have gone to junk mail and that she'd been on vacation. I left to avoid any more confrontation, after driving three hours through long-weekend traffic without a place to stay. This started about six weeks earlier, when I booked by mistake and tried to cancel the next day. I called dozens of times and emailed at least six times, without a response. Expedia tried to contact them for a week, then told me the establishment didn't accept cancellations. I resigned myself to staying there, although it was about 30 km from where I meant to go. When I arrived, the woman running the Historic Pacific first said it wasn't a bed and breakfast. I pointed out the sign. She then said I had no reservation, but after I offered to show her, she suddenly remembered it had been cancelled the day after I requested it. The conversation was very uncomfortable, and it took about three tries before she answered the door. Expedia has tried repeatedly to reach the company since, with no success. I'm still trying to get my money back through Expedia and hope to ask Mastercard for help. Be very careful with this place. From outside, the house looked quite old and run down.
