The next two nights were quiet after the smokers moved on. Our three-night stay at the North Vancouver Hotel started badly, though. We’d asked to move away from the busy road to reduce traffic noise, but on the first night someone was smoking cigarettes right beside our room and two others were smoking marijuana outside our door. The front desk dealt with it when we called. We put a towel by the door to keep the smells out and went to bed, but soon the marijuana smokers were back, banging on the neighboring door so it sounded like ours, then talking loudly for hours. The walls are very thin, and it was a rough night. The rooms were very clean and newly renovated, and we liked the cute kitchenette enough to pay a little extra for it. The price was very reasonable, so we would stay again. Breakfast was well stocked for my husband, but there were no gluten-free options for me. I could only have fruit and juice, and the fruit was apples. I had to buy a loaf of gluten-free bread myself. I hope they eventually offer gluten-free bread, pastries, or buns instead of just saying there’s nothing for someone like me, who has medical issues and can’t have gluten or dairy.

The staff treated us very well, and the beds were roomy and comfortable. Breakfast was decent, with bread, muffins, pancakes, oatmeal, regular milk, coffee, cereal, and juice, though there were no eggs or anything special and the only fruit was apples. More milk choices would have been nice. The microwave and mini fridge were useful, but although the coffee maker worked, there was no coffee to put in it, so it was basically for hot water. We were mostly there to sleep, and the clean room, sheets, and floor worked well for that. The bathroom was below expectations, and the tub didn’t look properly cleaned. I used the bath mat, though I wasn’t sure it was clean either. The old TV only worked for cable, and the damaged ironing board kept collapsing. It’s a practical, budget-friendly place if you can live with a few maintenance issues.

I’d recommend this hotel. I stayed one night on my way to Whistler for an appointment on the North shore. Check-in was friendly and easy, and the staff gave me a birthday card with a few things inside. Such a sweet gesture, it really warmed my heart. My deluxe room had been redone and was comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, especially the selection of pastries, and the woman working there was so kind and friendly. Enjoy your stay! 😃

There’s plenty of parking, though the road and lot noise carry easily into the rooms. The rear entrance gate closes at night, so you have to come in from Capilano Rd. The free breakfast included fresh fruit, packaged danishes, hot and cold cereals, pancakes, oatmeal packets, breads, yoghurts, deli meats, cheeses, and hot and cold drinks. Seating was scattered inside and outside, but the tables weren’t very clean. Our renovated unit was a surprisingly good stay, though it’s a motel as much as they argue it’s a hotel. The location was good. Our room smelled clean, with a Glade plug-in, while another family member’s clean room was musty. Water pressure was great, there was plenty of hot water, and the mattress and pillows were in good shape. It had in-room AC and heat, plus small vent windows. Booking through third-party sites actually cost more than the rate we got in person.

I’ve stayed at the North Vancouver Hotel a few times each year, and I’m fine with it being an older hotel. This past week was extremely disappointing. There seem to be different managers now. My intel, from a little birdie, is that someone involved in identity theft was trying to take over the true owners’ properties. The new staff around the hotel were rude as hell. At continental breakfast, the woman in the dining room watched everything I put on my plate like a gas station cashier eyeing a potential shoplifter. One night, someone came into my room around midnight and left after I called, “who’s there.” They didn’t identify themselves as staff. I called the desk right away to ask whether an employee had entered or someone else’s key card had opened my door. Apparently it was a staff member. The woman apologized and said she’d gone to the wrong room. I didn’t sleep well at all. If she was at the wrong room, why was she in the office only 30 seconds later instead of at the “right room”? I’ll go back once the real owner is back.
