Comfort Inn Ottawa East

The location was convenient, with the highway, a major mall, downtown Ottawa, museums, Parliament Hill, and local restaurants all nearby. Our room was clean, the king bed was comfortable, breakfast was included, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Still, we left disappointed after our two nights. Our room’s air conditioner didn’t work, and even with cool nights it felt stuffy. Staff knew, but the hotel was full and they couldn’t help. The shower had weak pressure and drained so slowly that water reached our ankles. We used the ice bucket to rinse off faster. The towels we got at check-in were stained and had to be replaced, and the room lighting was dim, with only a few small lamps. Breakfast seating was limited in the small area, and there’s no elevator, though the building is only two storeys. A cluttered, apparently abandoned car in front of the hotel made the place feel unwelcoming. For us, the problems outweighed the positives. It might work for a short stop or a quick one- or two-night visit, but this didn’t meet the Comfort Inn standards we expected.

The price seems fair for a two-star hotel. It’s basic, but not dirty, and the rooms were clean with good soundproofing. I didn’t try breakfast, so I can’t comment on that. The bathroom looked recently renovated and was clean too. The well-used bath mat and shower curtain had some holes, though they were clean. What bothered me most was the carpet. It had worn, dirty-looking spots, maybe from an old coffee spill or something else, and that made me uncomfortable.

The room itself was comfortable and clean, but there were a couple of issues. Breakfast wasn’t available until after 7:30 one morning, so I had to leave before it was ready. On the first night, housekeeping left dirty laundry and garbage in the hallway.

Everything was as expected, and the place was clean. We had a marathon that morning, so they let us check out at 2 p.m. instead of 11. The complimentary breakfast was great too.
