SOHO Residences Champagne

The building was noisy from 7 am, with heavy sounds all day and neighbours slamming doors. Sleeping in wasn't an option. If you're out until after 6 pm, it may not bother you, but I didn't find it peaceful or luxurious. I stayed for a few months on business at soho Italy 1. The concierge was among the least friendly I've dealt with. He would slam the door and raise his voice, making it unpleasant to pass him in the lobby or interact with him. My peace and quiet weren't in good hands.

The building is busy and well maintained, with people always cleaning. Owners selling units may find it difficult since lock boxes aren't allowed on site. Parking is a challenge all around the area, so watch for the trusty bylaw patrol handing out tickets.

The apartment itself was comfortable, and the housekeeping staff were friendly, though they don't come daily. It's a modern apartment-style hotel, and my stay at Soho Champagne was good overall. A few things could be improved. The concierge desk often came across as curt. The washer in our unit was broken; the front desk gave us a temporary fix after we reported it, but it was still inconvenient. The kitchen's non-stick pans were completely worn out. The biggest concern was the water maintenance, which happened without warning. The tap water turned green. When we called the after-hours line that night, they told us not to use it and to buy bottled water. In the morning we were told it was maintenance and to run the taps for a few hours. Communication could have been much clearer.

My spouse and I made a formal complaint after a bad interaction with a man at the concierge desk. He was rude, condescending, and unprofessional. In my view, he treated people of color differently from white people, and went out of his way to bother certain individuals and their guests. He shouldn't be working in customer service. I wouldn't recommend this location.
