Travelodge by Wyndham Ottawa West

This place was trash. The staff showed no care, and two birds were trapped in the pool area, trying to get out. The beds were hard, the pillows too, and there were no blankets, just a very thin sheet. The light flickered when turned on, the door latch was missing, the fridge was tiny, and the curtains were ripped and coming off the wall. There was mold under the table and on the bathroom floor, stains on the chairs and carpet, dirt and food crumbs in the headboard, and the walls and lamps were gross. The tub wasn’t clean and had hair in it. There was stuff on the posters, a knife in the pool area, and barely any lights in the hallway. The bathroom was tiny and the sink didn’t work properly. I don’t recommend it. It’s not worth the money and feels very unsafe.

The water was a good temperature and the slide was fun, but the water park looked much nicer and livelier in the photo than it did in person. Our room overlooked it, which was a nice touch. The hot tub felt uncomfortable, though the free towels helped make up for that. The rooms were clean but a little dank and gloomy. Our toilet was clogged, but it fixed itself, and we got a decent night’s sleep. The line took a full hour, so we got our room an hour late. For the price, it’s worth it, but not if you’re hoping to fully enjoy your stay.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the beds were really comfortable. Breakfast was a typical continental spread, satisfying enough. For a couple of nights, it’s worth going, though I wouldn’t stay for a whole week. The rooms felt a bit stuffy and needed airing out, and I struggled with the door and electric key card every time I had to open it. The price was reasonable. There’s a “water park” with a wave pool, slide, hot tub and kiddie pool, which kept the children busy at night. It was nice to have, but they charge $5 per night to use it.

The location worked well for my plans, with everything I wanted to do about a 10-15 minute drive away. The pool hours were very limited, around 10 to 15 hours a week, and it wasn’t open Sunday. My kids were upset when they couldn’t swim because there were no lifeguards. There were rust stains in the tub, and housekeeping hadn’t checked the shampoo before checkout, so there was none. I noticed only once I was in the shower, too late to call. Maintenance needed to fix the safe. The view was of the rooftop and satellite dishes. Reservations had misled me: I was told I’d pay the deposit at check-in and the room at checkout, but I had to pay both at check-in.
