Cape Split View Cottages

The couple who own the place were very friendly, especially the wife. She and my wife hit it off, and they were accommodating when our plans shifted a bit. The cottage was very clean and cozy, with lots of cubby space. It felt almost like an Ikea showroom: most of the furniture was lovely and functional, with little wasted space. The kitchen had everything needed to cook, though not the food. The washer and dryer were efficient and quiet. Outside there’s a fire pit, plus a table and chairs by the gas grill, with an umbrella over the table. For a couple, this could feel very romantic. We had our twelve-year-old son with us, though, so privacy was limited. There’s one interior door, between the kitchen/laundry area and bathroom. A large wardrobe with an ornate key separated our bed from his. It gave some line-of-sight separation, but not much else. If the wood had been darker and it was full of heavy coats, it might have taken you to Narnia. The temperature was just right while we were there, though the weather wasn’t hot or cold and the HVAC hardly came on. Expedia charged for only two people even though the listing says an additional child is $45. There was also a $75 cleaning fee. For our three-day stay, that wasn’t terribly unreasonable, and it seems fair for a week, which I think is their usual rental period. They’re expanding their home across the drive to make room for their daughter, so you might hear a beep or two this year, but it was mostly quiet when we visited. We never turned on the TV, so I can’t comment on it. The satellite internet was fine, with a few drops lasting seconds here and there. That could be an issue if you’re gaming. We hope to return in a few years.
