Best Western Pembroke Inn & Conference Centre

The breakfast had a nice range of choices, including plenty on the free menu. We’ll be back for sure, this has become a favourite stop for us. The staff were so warm and caring from the moment they greeted us. Thanks to all of you for looking after us so well! Our neighbours were pretty loud while we walked to the room, but once we shut the door, we couldn’t hear a thing from outside.

The staff were genuinely friendly, and I appreciate them. None of this is their fault. Still, I’d tell people to stay away. The ceilings are very low, and if you’re over 6 foot, it can feel seriously claustrophobic. The building looks like a prefab unit assembled on site. Its windows don’t open, so there’s no fresh air, and not having an emergency exit through them seems like a safety issue that might not be allowed in other jurisdictions. The heating and cooling system is old and noisy. Moisture on the inside of the windows makes me think mold may be a constant issue. My sweetheart is sensitive to mold and felt sick. After reading other reviews about the pool, I’m not surprised. We chose the place partly because it advertised a hot tub, pool, and sauna. Don’t let those sway you. The hot tub wasn’t very hot and its jets didn’t work. The sauna was downstairs in the fitness area. The hallways were loud, with kids running up and down and drunken parents yelling late into the night. I’m all for free range play, but the doors do little to block sound. If I were Best Western, I’d bulldoze the whole thing and build a decent, safe, healthy hotel. You don’t really want to do business somewhere whose review starts with “warning,” do you?

We’re getting ready to leave and paid extra for a late checkout. For much of the night, kids ran up and down the hall while grown men shouted to each other. I have CPTSD, and it’s been a terrible stay. I slept poorly and now have a bad headache. Just five minutes ago, children were shooting nerf darts at our room’s entry door. I’d like someone from Best Western to contact me about what can be done after this upsetting experience. I’d hoped for a quiet evening and a good night’s sleep, and now I have to drive back to Toronto on very little sleep. I’m hoping for a partial or full refund.

We stayed for almost a week and were comfortable the whole time. The hotel was clean and tidy, with a good variety at breakfast. The front desk staff were professional and friendly, especially Pam🙂.
