The lake view was honestly a 20/10, and the little beach has two docks you can jump from. We stayed in cabin #7 in September, when it was quiet, so I can’t say how busy summer gets. The cabins are close together, but we didn’t mind with all the amenities and things to do. It’s dog friendly, and the few other pets around weren’t an issue. It was my first cabin trip and I’d happily make it a yearly tradition. The place was lovely, and I wish we could’ve stayed longer. The kitchen had everything we needed, though you’ll want to bring your own ketchup, mustard and other condiments since the fridge is empty. Dish soap and a sponge were supplied, which was handy. Firewood is $10 cash, the BBQ and propane are free, and bringing your own wood could save money. There are canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, pool noodles and life jackets. Bring plenty of towels if you plan to swim, because the ones provided aren’t enough. The rooms were clean, though small, and the beds were very comfortable. They also provide extra blankets, sheets, fans, heaters and pillows. In the morning, chipmunks drop chestnuts on the roof, and they sound like tiny bombs. We thought it was cute, but light sleepers might get an early start. The bathroom was manageable for my boyfriend’s grandpa and me, but my nan is a larger woman and couldn’t fit in the shower, so she wasn’t able to shower during our three days there. A longer stay would’ve made it hard for her to keep clean, especially since she can’t swim either.
We’ve been twice this year and would definitely come back. The owners are really friendly and will get you whatever you need. The cabins are cute and comfortable, and the water is right in front of you. You can use the canoes, paddle boat and rowboats, or sit on either of the two docks and take in the morning or evening sky.
The room and bed were comfortable, and there were utensils and a few toys. The lake view was lovely, and the atmosphere was great. The main issue was the hot water. The shower and sink were very cold, and the controls seemed reversed: the cold setting felt warm and the warm setting felt cold. Even after the owner switched on a control that seemed to be off, we still couldn’t get much warm water. My bath was cut short when it turned cold again. Fortunately I had a heater and a bucket of water, since waiting for the water to warm back up would have taken a long time for my family and me. Apart from that, the room was good.
A rustic cabin right by the water is just what we like, and the owners are so kind and sweet. This was our second stay at black lake cabins, and we’ve loved it both times. We’ll definitely be back.
For the price, this was great value and we’ll visit again. The cabin had a cozy feel and a great view, and it was really clean. There was a TV and the essentials, including a BBQ, fire pit and canoe. We had an awesome weekend at black lake cabins.
