La Conche Saint-Martin

The owner, Daniel, gives you a warm welcome and is quite a colorful character. This cottage is part of a large log house in Port Daniel. The town itself doesn’t have much appeal, but the house is right by the river and has a beautiful view, so it’s a good stop if you’re passing through. The rooms are comfortable, though they can get hot in summer; there’s a portable fan if you need one. The bed is fairly firm, which may not suit everyone, and there’s a fairly large private bathroom with a shower. Breakfast is good and made by the owner using local products.

The inn has real character, with incredible decor, and was a highlight of our trip to the Gaspé Peninsula. It’s a magnificent log cabin overlooking the lagoon, near the sea and wildlife reserve, between Bonaventure and Percé. There’s a large orchard where you can pick delicious haskap berries. Dan is a passionate, funny, and generous host who’s a great cook, and breakfast is an experience all by itself. A little slice of paradise.

We had a great stay in this log cabin, which we picked for its view over the lagoon. I wish we’d had more time to pick haskap berries in the owner Daniel’s fields. The cottage is 80 km from Percé and 6 km from the wildlife reserve, where there’s a salmon river. There are also little rivers for swimming, plus sandy and pebbly beaches.

Daniel gave us such a warm welcome. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a superb view of the lagoon. Breakfasts were exceptional. Highly recommended.
