Staybridge Suites Port Elgin

Breakfast was better than I expected for a hotel in this class, and all the staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel was pretty good overall. Next time I’d skip the suite: the only extra was a small sofa, and I found the bed much more comfortable.

After 15 years of work trips to Port Elgin and stays in different places, this team is the best I’ve encountered. Everyone is polite, courteous, and genuinely friendly, and they make my visits easy and enjoyable. I’m here many weeks each year for work at BP. This time, during a very busy pumpkin fest, I booked my month-long stay late and initially couldn’t get a room for a few days. Michael Fauteux at the front desk managed to keep me in the same room for the whole stay. His dedication and customer service are second to none, and I can’t thank him enough. I hope management and IHG Corporate recognize him and give him the bonus he deserves.

The buffet breakfast was a real highlight, with plenty to choose from and gluten-free options clearly marked. There’s also a small pool, a decent little gym, and a nice bar and lounge. The place is clean, and the beds and pillows are pretty good.

I’ve never had someone just let themselves into my hotel room before. I was relaxing when a child badged in, noticed I was there, said, “Oh, sorry!” and left. It may have been brought in by a housekeeper or another guest. That came after I found an old ziplock bag of cheese under the air conditioner on my first night. I only spotted it while sitting on the bed, and it made me wonder whether the room had been deep cleaned.
