Glen Lyon Inn & Suites

The crab cakes at the attached restaurant were the best I've had. They were thin, with lots of crab and a crisp crust, instead of being mostly cake like ones I've had elsewhere. I felt for the young woman serving alone that evening, but she stayed cheerful and handled the whole dining room really well. A young man faced the same situation at breakfast and did a great job too. The front desk and cleaning staff were cheerful and helpful, and my room was clean and comfortable with a roomy deck over the water. I spent 2 nights at the Glen Lyon Inn and enjoyed it a lot. There were eagles everywhere. Most windows didn't have screens, but there weren't any bugs, so it didn't matter much. The nights were cool enough that open windows worked fine without A/C, and opening the deck and front doors for 10 minutes cooled the room quickly with a cross breeze. I'd happily stay and eat at the Glen Lyon Inn again.

The honeymoon suite's balcony was huge, the fireplace worked well, and the ocean views were spectacular. With windows on both sides, we woke up to beautiful sunshine and water views. The room was clean and spacious, and front desk service was quick and friendly during our 3-day stay at the Glen Lyon Inn in Port Hardy. No complaints, and we'd recommend staying here. One small suggestion: the suite had a microwave and bar fridge in its built-in kitchenette, but no wine glasses, plates, or cutlery. We had to get those from the restaurant.

The room was nice and clean, with no issues, though the rooms are getting dated. I'd definitely stay there again.

For a place that's not a big-budget international destination for jetsetters or major investors, this is a comfortable, well-designed, professionally run option in a great spot on Vancouver Island. Free parking was useful, and my clean, comfortable room had a great ocean view. The shower worked well and the mini-fridge was in good shape and quiet all night. The woman at the front desk was so nice, and check-in was quick. Checkout took just a moment. The attached restaurant/pub looked a little sparse, but the food and service were great. That's how I judge it based on my own experience and expectations.
