Pier Side Landing

The rooms are roomy and the beds comfortable, and ours had a charming balcony with deck chairs. Every room looks out over the Bay. Staff were wonderful, friendly, and helpful. We'll stay here again on our next trip to Port Hardy.

The view was nice and the staff were friendly, but neither could make up for this awful stay. I was awake on the worn mattress with huge, neck-breaking pillows, hearing every sound from the person above through the paper-thin ceiling. The carpet smelled ancient, mixed with what seemed like formaldehyde, and the fridge squealed like a banshee. The bed felt 20 years old and the pillows seemed as big as five pillows combined. I've stayed in plenty of low-quality hotels, but this was the worst. I'd rather sleep in the back of a truck. I've never slept so badly in a hotel, and I'd give zero stars if I could.

We arrived after the ferry from Prince Rupert reached Port Hardy at 11 p.m., checking in around 11:30. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was clean, large, and comfortable. In the morning we saw a fantastic water view, though the beds faced the wrong way to enjoy it from bed. The mattress was good and the towels nice, but the TV seemed unnecessarily small. The furnishings looked fairly new, while details like a broken bathroom mirror and a small missing section by the bathroom floor were neglected. The hole made us wonder whether mice or rats could get in. There were three ceiling fire sprinklers, which made us feel pretty safe. No closet, so the iron was hung visibly on the wall. We could hear machinery switching on and off, which turned out to be an elevator, so try for a room farther away. Breakfast was extremely basic, with nothing hot, no toast or toaster, no orange juice, and no eggs. Head to Cafe Guido instead. There was also no handy outlet near a surface, so charging devices meant leaving them dangling on the floor behind a table.

So far, it's been a very pleasing and affordable stay with a nice ocean view. The place is clean, the beds comfy, and the simple recreation area has coffee. There's also a playground out back for kids.
