North Coast Trail Backpackers Hostel

I needed a bed for the night in Port Hardy before catching the ferry to Prince Rupert, and this hostel worked well. It's clean, the staff are friendly, and the location is great. I'm in my late 30s and felt perfectly comfortable. The bus from Nanaimo drops you right across the street. It's a hostel, so don't expect the Shangri La.

For an overnight stop before the ferry, this was just right. The hostel was clean and fairly quiet, though the private room we had could use some updating and care, as could the rest of the place. The staff were lovely, welcoming, and helpful. Let them know when you arrive, because they may be away from the office.

We had the queen room on one stay, which was large and had an ensuite, then a double room on our return. The double was small, though that wasn't a problem, but good to know if you're bringing gear since even a bike helmet took up space. The shared bathroom was spacious and very clean, and the kitchen was excellent. It's a handy place to catch the ferry or stay after arriving, with friendly, efficient service even at 1 a.m. Parking was easy.

My car broke down, so I had to stay in Port Hardy several days longer than planned. Anne made sure I was looked after and had somewhere to stay at the hostel, which I really appreciated. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and cozy, and the owners were outstanding. I'd strongly recommend staying here if you're in Port Hardy.
