We arrived to find two bugs crawling on the bed, and the bedding had hairs on it and smelled strange. A man changed the sheets, which we appreciated, but the place still didn’t feel clean. The comforter and towels smelled like sweat, as though someone had used them after a workout. The hotel smelled bad overall, and even the staircase was filthy, with bits of chewed gum stuck to it. The area outside didn’t seem safe at night. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

We got almost no sleep. The bars and restaurants downstairs were noisy past midnight, then people on the street started screaming around 5 a.m. The management also didn’t respond to our message about the dirty, smelly bedding until after 9 the next morning, though we contacted them around 10:30 p.m. We checked out early and cancelled the rest of our reservation because of the noise and filth. They refunded the unused nights, but management considered the other problems immaterial and said the window was designed that way. I don’t agree that bedding smelling of someone else’s sweat and body odour is immaterial. It’s disgusting. The room was filthy and dusty, with stains on the cheap polyester sheets, pillow, comforter, and hand towel. The bedding smelled like body odour, and I doubt it had been washed after the previous guests. There was mildew and mold in the shower. The narrow stairs were dirty, and there’s no elevator. The window is a sheet of plexiglass screwed into the frame, and broken parts mean the real window can’t be closed. They say street parking is free, but spaces fill up quickly, so realistically you’ll need a paid lot three minutes away. This isn’t adequate rental accommodation in a lot of ways.

We were glad we’d booked just one night. The apartment wasn’t worth the price, with worn, damaged furniture and no charm, and the neighbourhood was noisy. The windows were dirty, partly covered with plexiglass, and couldn’t be opened. The refrigerator was loud, and the AC was noisy too. It was the only way to get fresh air.

It’s a long walk to Chateau Frontenac and The Plains of Abraham. Some of it feels a bit sketchy, with very steep hills and outdoor staircases. There’s no parking either. The apartment itself was spacious and clean, near a grocery store and restaurants. The bed was firm but comfortable. The portable window AC unit, which wasn’t shown in the ad, couldn’t cool the apartment. It was 26° when I checked in, even though the AC was set to 17°. It gives off a lot of heat that gets trapped around the window it uses. I’d stick to the fan setting and open the window.

The room wasn’t worth the $175 we paid. The shower water was barely warm, and parking on this busy street was difficult. I wish I’d paid attention to the reviews here. The Airbnb reviews were glowing, but they were super misleading. The mattress didn’t seem like a proper mattress. I’m pretty sure it was a box spring, and the springs or coils dug into our backs. We needed a good night’s rest before a long drive the next day, but couldn’t sleep. Worst stay ever.
