Hotel Universel

We booked this hotel as part of a deal with a show at Salle Albert Rousseau, which was close enough to walk to. That was about the only reason the stay nearly felt worthwhile. The room was plain, the bathroom cramped, there was a hair in the tub, and the mini fridge kept gurgling. After our morning shower, the faucet wouldn't stop dripping. I was glad we hadn't showered before bed. The fabric headboard also made me uneasy about leaning against it. Sound carries badly through the thin walls. We heard people talking and walking in the hall at all hours, and during a kids' hockey tournament, children ran between rooms to visit each other. When we raised it at reception, they shrugged and said there was a tournament. The pool is small, so it felt awkward with lots of kids in it. The fourth-floor balcony overlooks it, but that level was stiflingly hot and humid, and brown mold covered the ceiling. The hotel's restaurant is a Boston Pizza. When I asked about fresh fruit, they suggested I try there, and the front desk clerk said, "it's too bad I just threw out the apple in my lunchbox." There are plenty of fast food places nearby, but not much to do in this university area. We canceled our second night and moved to a better hotel in downtown Old Québec. They told us to report any noise, though we didn't need to because their rooms were better insulated. On the way out of Hôtel Universel the next day, we saw actual vomit on the path to the entrance. I won't come back, and I'll be reluctant to try another Hotel Universel.
