Le Haute Ville

The studio is a little tight for two, but manageable, and it’s a quaint apartment just minutes from Quebec City’s main tourist spots. Be ready to carry your luggage up the stairs, since there’s no lift and the place isn’t manned. The building was also noisy. We could hear people opening doors, climbing the stairs and talking in the hallway.

The rooms are tiny but very clean, and the location is good. The kitchen is small, though pretty well equipped with a little stove, fridge, microwave, coffee maker and some dishes. The bathroom was in good, clean condition, but had the smallest sink I’ve ever seen. There was a coffee maker but we couldn’t find any tea or coffee, so we couldn’t make either. Still, I’d recommend this place to travelers.

This was my first stay at the property, after three visits to Quebec, and it wasn’t a good experience. On our winter checkout day at the end of December, there was no hot water. I reported it, but staff couldn’t fix it in time. I noticed there weren’t many guests that day or the day before, but I don’t know if low use had anything to do with the hot water being out, or if there was a heating problem. We waited for a while, then had to follow up ourselves to learn it couldn’t be fixed before our scheduled checkout. I asked for extra time because of the issue and was granted only 30 minutes, after requesting it, since the heating apparently wouldn’t be fixed until the afternoon. The manager only contacted me by message after checkout, which was disappointing. I wouldn’t return or recommend it.

It’s a nice old-style house, and the room was clean. The little kitchen even had pots and utensils, which was great. Finding the room was a bit confusing because you have to open doors on the upper floors to spot the room numbers and get to the right one. It would be much better to put the numbers on the main doors. Other than that, everything was great, and the door codes worked fine.
