We came from Europe and stayed December 18-19. The Christmas decorations were lovely throughout the hotel and rooms, festive without being too much. Our large, comfortable room even had a hidden kitchen, and the library was a real treasure in this little design hotel. Service was kind and attentive, and nothing seemed like too much trouble. We also ate at the in-house gourmet restaurant, with its mix of traditional and modern dishes and a great wine list. The team there was friendly and professional. We only stayed briefly, but highly recommend Monsieur Jean when you're in Quebec City.

The Marvelous Suite was a highlight of our week, with sweeping views over the city and river, great included amenities, and everything kept pristine. We could walk to just about everything from this incredible upper-town location. The hotel itself is playful and unique, with no detail overlooked. Service was warm from start to finish, especially Jan at the front desk. Le Bijou had phenomenal food and drinks, and the bar team made great cocktails. Valet was fast and helpful, and having laundry on-site was so convenient. We wholeheartedly recommend it and can't wait to come back to QC!

The bathroom was stylish, with two sinks, a separate toilet room with a door, and a glass-walled shower. The door to the rest of the bathroom is a velvet drape, which I'm not sure about. It might be fine alone, but privacy can matter even when you're with your spouse, especially if one person needs to do things while the other sleeps. There was a handy little nook in the shower, plus the usual toiletries if you'd forgotten shampoo or similar. There was no toilet brush. Our upper-floor room was quiet, with nice bedding, though it only had one pillow and could use a few more. The kitchenette had bottled water in the fridge, a Nespresso machine with pods, a tiny electric kettle, and a two-burner hot plate with pots and cutlery. You could cook there, though you probably wouldn't. We stayed a few days in October and enjoyed this small hotel. Its location is convenient, in the more modern upper part of Vieux Québec. There's a nice bar off the lobby serving food, and breakfast is available if you subscribe. It gets busy in the afternoons and evenings, so booking may be wise. They sometimes have live entertainment. Valet parking costs extra, and getting things from your car is a bit of a faff because you're escorted to drop things off or retrieve them. There's also a nearby underground public lot that might be handier and possibly cheaper, but may be less secure. The hotel has an EV charger and charged our car at no extra cost. We'd gladly return.

The snowy scene outside my window was breathtaking, and waking up to those views made the stay unforgettable. The location couldn't be better, and the staff went above and beyond with exceptional service. Everything felt perfect. Highly recommend!

I've found Canadian hotels can fall short of world-class standards, and even a five-star property may feel like a three-star one in Asia. That's why I was surprised Monsieur Jean is rated four stars. It's better than many Canadian five-star hotels I've stayed in, with modern, new surroundings, spacious and very quiet rooms, a fantastic location, and attentive staff. Choose it over the chateau and you won't be disappointed. Bravo.
