The rooms at this Sandman were much better than those at other small town hotels I've stayed in. If you prefer sleeping with the window open, though, ask for a room on the side away from the highway. The pool, hot tub, and fitness room are decent for a small hotel. One other issue was a work group that took over the lobby every morning, spreading their equipment and work clothes on the floor and making the space uninviting. It also kept other guests from using the furniture. If a company needs a place for its employees to meet each morning, they should book a meeting room.

The rooms are fine for a small town highway hotel, and the staff are pleasant. Housekeeping is the problem. During my recent stay, someone else's earplug stayed on the carpet the whole time. I've had skipped room cleaning on several stays. Even when I asked at check-in for daily service, the front desk employee said she'd put it in the system, and I hung the door card out before 10 am, the room was still missed at least once during each stay. I've reported this to the desk every time, but it hasn't been fixed. Usually I get a tepid apology and clean towels. Once, several months ago, the front desk lady on shift came herself to take the garbage and replace the towels after housekeeping skipped us again. The manager has said they'll review the issue with staff and do better. For that follow-up, we confirmed at check-in that we wanted daily cleaning and were told it would be entered in the system. We also made sure to put the card out on time. Maybe management has no way to confirm the rooms were cleaned, or perhaps they accept this as a way to cut labor costs. Either way, it seems to be both a system and staffing problem. Cleaners need to take more pride in their work, and management needs to check that rooms are properly cleaned before the cleaners leave. It's a shame, because the Sandman could be a decent basic place to stay without this ongoing lack of housekeeping.

We had a great stay with our hockey team. An automation issue charged my credit card twice, but GM Brent helped get it sorted out quickly and easily. I'd definitely recommend this hotel if you're passing through Quesnel.

The lobby feels cozy, with a fireplace and comfortable couches, and the staff are simply the best. Everyone says good morning and seems to really care about making your stay just right. The renovated hotel is very well done, and the rooms are first rate, with everything you need. The beds and bedding are sooo comfortable, and I appreciated the 10x mirror in the bathroom for makeup. Five stars in my books. Thanks to all of you :) 😀

I like that the Sandman is Canadian owned, and the artwork at each location is photographs of local features taken by local artists. They also tend to have a Denny’s, which is handy, and pet-friendly rooms for people like me who often travel with animal friends. In general, my experience with Sandman hotels has been that they're clean, well maintained and organized, good value, and staffed by friendly, helpful people.
