Alpen Motel

We’ve stayed at the Alpen Motel quite a few times and usually try to book the same room, but we got a different one this visit. I don’t know whether the mattresses have changed, but this one felt like a board. After three nights we’d hardly slept, and our backs and shoulders were sore. Pillows under our shoulders and hips didn’t help. The air conditioner didn’t work either. We’re really disappointed and can’t wait to get home to a comfortable bed. I’m not sure we’ll return. They need to invest in more comfortable mattresses.

The room was dated and sparsely furnished, with uncomfortable beds and a visibly dirty shower curtain. There was dog poop around the property, too, which made walking around unpleasant. We also couldn’t get a late checkout, and were told we’d be charged extra if we weren’t out exactly at 11. The customer service was poor from the start. At check-in, no one told us breakfast vouchers came with the stay. When we asked about them later, we were told to cross the highway to collect them. The man at the desk also refused vouchers to our friends’ two children, saying they weren’t on the booking, even though they were. A mix-up could have been handled with some compassion, but he was rude and dismissive. We were there with our family and another family, and the stay was disappointing throughout. Between the service, the uncomfortable rooms, and the cleanliness, I wouldn’t recommend this motel. It wasn’t worth the money.

Breakfast came from a local restaurant. We had coffee and a sandwich, both fine. The motel was very clean and in a lovely little town, and felt worth the price. The only issue was that nobody was there at night.

A little dated, but everything in the clean, comfortable room worked, and the price was great. I’d stay here again.
