Radium Chalet

The balcony had great views, the bed was comfortable, and the staff member I spoke with was as helpful as she could be. Still, I found the stay very disappointing because the place has so much potential. The room felt outdated and poorly maintained, and the kitchenette was in rough shape. There was no toaster despite it being advertised, and the kettle was melted, so I considered it unsafe to use. The only kitchen light was a small under-cabinet one. There was just one small bread plate and two small bowls, and all were dirty. A sign asked guests to wash their dishes, but there was no dish soap or towel for drying them, which may explain why they weren’t clean. I’d give the hotel two stars.

I rewrote this after my last visit left me feeling unsettled. I was given a top-floor room and spent the night star-watching while trying some meditations and other ways to relax. Around midnight, something in the room frightened both me and my dog. I turned on a light to check on her and found her near the couch, while spiders seemed to be crawling all over the room. Beside the couch, I saw lots of other bugs moving up and down the walls. There were cleanliness problems, and I felt an odd presence there that I hadn’t noticed on my first two visits. It didn’t feel good. From the vehicles the owners drive, you can tell they prioritize themselves. The Radium Chalet has a lot of potential, which makes this upsetting. My first visit, 3-5 years ago, was so impressive. The place should be sold to someone who cares and takes pride in owning it.

We left the same evening and had to find and pay for somewhere else to stay. I was traveling with my young daughter, who has a breathing condition, and staying in the room wasn’t an option. We documented what we found with photos and requested a refund because we couldn’t use the room at all. After a six-hour drive, we’d expected a clean, comfortable place. The property looked dirty before we even reached the unit, with a rag thrown over the railings and old broken furniture in the hallway. Inside, the room was in extremely poor condition. Cleanliness and maintenance were far below basic lodging standards, and we didn’t feel safe staying there. The front desk staff were polite and seemed genuinely embarrassed. They said they knew about the property’s condition and had limited ability to deal with repairs or upkeep, which was concerning. I would not recommend staying here. The accommodation was deplorable and extremely disappointing.

For a budget-friendly hotel it was okay, but there was a lot of wear and tear. The bathroom floor was cracked, the vanity was damaged, the toilet handle was cracked, and both the fireplace and its switch were falling apart. A sign said the pull-out bed couldn’t be used, and the towels looked very old and ratty. The parking lot is fairly small, so keep that in mind when traveling. No one was at the front desk when we tried to check in, so we called several times and waited before reaching someone. We were handed the keys without information about the hotel, wifi, breakfast, or pool. Expedia said breakfast was free, but we weren’t sure if that was the case.
