Days Inn & Conference Centre Renfrew Centre

I almost skipped this place because of the reviews, but I’m glad I gave it a chance. The room was warm and clean, the towels and bedding looked new, and I didn’t see any bugs. The hotel had no smell like some reviews claimed. The receptionist was very polite and helpful, and the restaurant was a big plus, with delicious food and coffee in the morning. I stay in hotels all over Ontario every week for work, and this was the nicest one I’d had in months. It was just over $100 for the night. A really good stay.

The bed was all right, though quite firm, and there was nothing to help someone get into the tub or shower. The restaurant was closed, so we had to find food elsewhere. The hotel itself is tired and needs attention: there were big water marks on the ceiling and food on the carpet, which hadn’t been vacuumed. It may be the only hotel in town, but it’s not a good example of a Wyndham Hotel.

The staff seemed very accommodating, and check-in was easy. The bedding and towels were fresh, too. But with the kids along, it was disappointing that we couldn’t use the locked pool during its listed open hours. We also couldn’t open our windows because two large wasp nests were right outside, and there were no screens. Some outlets in our room didn’t work, and neither did the phone. They did stay on top of things through their text message system. I’d suggest removing the phones since they give a misleading impression that they can be used in an emergency. The pool was the one perk we didn’t get, and the kids were bummed.

I found a dirty, used razor in the shower and complained about it and the noisy fridge. Nobody responded. They thanked me in a survey for my “discretion,” but offered no discount or upgrade. I hadn’t even mentioned the filth on the walls or that you can walk in through the side door without a key. I was so unimpressed. And no, the hair on the shower wall in the picture isn’t mine.
