Motel Le Sabre

Our room had a kitchenette with a fridge, stove, oven, microwave, and sink, plus a small dining table. The bathroom was nice, everything was clean, and coffee was provided. It’s pet friendly, and we’ll stay again.

We got a room for one night at the last minute, with no hassle. Each room has its own parking spot, which was handy. The room was huge and had everything we could want for a small weekend motel getaway: a couch, a little TV with a few channels and others you could buy, and a kitchenette with a small supply of cups, plates, and utensils. There was also a Keurig with coffee, plus a nice bathroom with a hair dryer and shower soap, though it was hand soap. The room was well cared for and had cute decor, and the bed was very comfortable with plenty of blankets for two. The owner spoke English, which was a plus for me, though my partner and I both speak French. She was very kind and welcoming, and that made the stay worthwhile. Our only complaint was about a couple either next door or upstairs who seemed to be making pornographic movies at 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. It sounded like they were in our room, and being woken the second time was awkward. That doesn’t change how we feel about the motel, since it wasn’t the motel’s fault.

I felt overcharged for a $100 motel, paying $200. When I arrived alone, the owner kept offering me a larger room and bed, which I declined because I didn’t want to pay a premium comparable to Wyndham hotels for a cheap motel. The pet charge also seemed unfair. I had one medium-sized, 40 lb dog, but she charged double as if there were two dogs, saying it was because he wasn’t small. I couldn’t find anything in the listing saying bigger dogs cost more, and she added 15% tax. I’ve never been taxed on a hotel pet fee, which I understand to be a service charge and standard practice across chains and small motels. At one minute to 11 a.m., she was banging on my door like the police. I said I was on the toilet and on my way out, but she kept pounding. I opened the door to point out my packed bags and explain I’d just been in the bathroom. As soon as I closed it, the violent banging started again. Also, don’t use the shampoo. It seems to be refilled with the same hand soap as the sink. Compare a squirt of each in your hands and they’re identical. Update: I can’t reply to the owner’s question. No, I stayed from July 1 to the morning of July 2, in room 3 or 4. I had one dog and no visitors.

After traveling from Nova Scotia to Niagara Falls, we stopped here on the way back. It was easily the best hotel of our trip. The place was beautiful, clean, and extremely well furnished, and it felt just like home. With the couch in the room, five people could sleep there easily.
