Motel St-Ambroise

It feels very modern and hi-tech, and the building seems newly built. I liked how clean the room was, the towels were fine for four people, and the firm bed was good for my back. The downside is that nobody is there in person to help if you need something. It could use an AI to serve you, since there’s no staff around.

It’s about 22 km from the city, so having a car is probably best. I stayed four days and found the place quite good.

Room #5 was very comfortable, with impeccable armchairs and mattress, and the service, cleanliness, and decor were all excellent. The shower was large and spotless, but stepping out onto the floor was rough: the tiles in the bathroom stay icy, and half the room by the window gets extremely cold too. We also missed having an ice machine. The automatic door locks make a lot of noise, and some simple improvements to the room soundproofing would make the stay even nicer. Still, we had a very good stay.

I slept very poorly here. There was noise from other guests, traffic, doors opening and closing, and people talking, all coming through the thin walls. The refrigerator and plumbing were extremely noisy too. The heat pump in my room wasn’t working when I arrived, and it was 17°C. I ended up using the wall heater in the bathroom, which was noisy as well. I called to report the issues, but was told that $125 a night including taxes was a good price, as if that invalidated my complaint. The owners stay behind the phone and aren’t on site. I found that unacceptable and not quality service. I called the owner to explain what had happened. My family owns a hostel, so I understand the industry is difficult, but I expected some understanding and got only excuses. I hung up and decided to post about it. Easy check-in and a modern place were the pros. But if you need to work, avoid it. A hotel or room is for sleeping, and this was one of my worst experiences for noise. Modern, sure, but not quality. Very disappointed, one out of five stars.
