Manoir St-André

The bed was decent and the water pressure was good. Alex and francine were very friendly when we spoke on the phone, and I got the impression they’re trying to turn the place around. But there’s still a long way to go. Outside, the property was overgrown and looked unattended. In our room, the fridge was dirty, the towels were thin, and the furniture repairs were shoddy. There wasn’t even coffee ready in the morning.

I’ve stayed here many times as a halfway stop on my drive between Halifax and Ottawa. It’s a beautiful Second Empire building, with lovely details both inside and out. Nearby, there’s a hike to the top of the 'island' about one kilometer southwest. Ask the host how to get there. First, cut through the tractor place parking lot.

We were disappointed to arrive and find that the room we’d booked by phone couldn’t be used because of plumbing problems, and there weren’t really any other rooms available for us. I tried calling several times on the way, but no one picked up. The place looked neglected.

The hosts gave us a great welcome and worked to make sure we were comfortable. The owners are hilarious, too. It’s near the river and some cute spots in town. Seriously recommend.
