Chipman Hill Suites - Pratt House

Downtown is convenient, but that was about the only thing we liked here. We booked four nights and left after just one. The room had a musty smell, and the tub wouldn’t drain. Hair that seemed to belong to someone else was coming up through the drain, which really grossed us out. The building itself was clean, but traffic outside was incredibly loud, and our baby couldn’t sleep. We’d told management by email that we were travelling with an infant, yet they put us in a street-facing room. This place also isn’t well suited to anyone with accessibility needs. They may offer a room on floor 1, but you still have to climb a steep set of stairs just to enter the building. The website photos gave us the impression that “full kitchen” meant a proper kitchen. Instead, it was a tiny kitchenette squeezed into the room with an oven added. There’s no ventilation, so cooking makes the whole place stink. If you’re travelling with children, book a hotel. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The location was perfect, though keep in mind that it’s up a hill. Check-in and parking were explained really well, and the phone service was excellent. They called ahead to ask whether we needed a foldable bed or a park and play for our baby. Our king-size bed and sofa bed suite felt authentic, and our four year old said it looked like a castle. The bed was very, very comfortable. Once the sofa bed was open there wasn’t much space left, but it was fine for a couple of nights.

The bed was comfy, parking and check-in details were clear, and the location was handy. It made things easier than at most similar places. The floors were cold, though, the neighbours were noisy, and the body wash had a strong perfume smell.

We felt at home at Chipman Hill suites and relaxed while enjoying the first City in North America. The historic building has charming character, and our clean room was decorated with real taste and attention to detail. It had everything we needed. The front office staff member gave us a very welcoming greeting, and the location made it easy to get around downtown. A flawless stay.
