Chipman Hill Suites - Sydney Street

We enjoyed our stay and walked to dinner. They've done a great job preserving the history, especially on the first floor, which feels like stepping into another time. The beds were comfortable, and everything was clean.

If I'm back in Saint John, especially for more than a few days, this is where I'd begin my search. Chipman Hill on Sydney is a gorgeous historic hotel, the most beautiful I've ever stayed in. It's very convenient for downtown Halifax and the waterfront, and the in-unit kitchenette makes it well suited to longer stays. One warning: read the parking directions carefully, especially if you're staying while school is in session.

We stayed two nights and were pleasantly impressed. The decor is fabulous, with gorgeous sitting rooms and a solarium where you can relax. It was very clean, and the owners/proprietors kept in touch well. The place is close to downtown and within walking distance of lots of restaurants and shops. We'd definitely stay again.

I wasn't sure what to expect, since this isn't a typical hotel and its rooms are scattered around Saint John, but it was much better than I anticipated. I stayed at the Sydney St location, in a historic building with a sense of old-time grandeur. My room was clean, distinctive, and well appointed, and close to everything I needed, including restaurants. After I left, they emailed to tell me I'd forgotten something in my room. I appreciated their honesty and service.
