Northwoods Inn & Suites

We were there for an hour before finding bedbugs, so we left right away. They said there would be no refund, but Expedia kindly made an exception and returned our money. The room was filthy and had holes in the walls. The online photos are misleading, the hotel looks nothing like them. There were sex workers operating out of the lobby, and the owner knew them by name and said nothing when they propositioned my husband. I’ve stayed in some sketchy places, but this was easily the worst hotel of my life. I’d sleep in my car before staying here, even if it were the last hotel available. Do not stay here.

The owner seems to change the price every other day, so even the low cost can be a problem. The place has a strange way of being run: he insults employees, yells at them, and swears at customers. There were bloodstained carpets and cockroaches, and the whole place gave me the feeling I might get shot or mugged. Still, it had a sort of homey feel. The police are practically always in the parking lot, so at least it feels pretty safe. I’d give it a firm quarter star if I could, mostly because it was inexpensive.

The room hadn’t been cleaned before we were given it, and it was cold with too few sheets. I called reception, but nobody answered. There were only a few small bathroom towels and no body lotion. This was a double room, and to top it off, cockroaches were running around. Not good!

The room smelled so bad that I tried to open the window, but it was screwed shut. The door was damaged, and the bathroom door handle was broken too. After we went out for a few hours, we came back to a room full of cockroaches. The front desk initially refused a refund, so we left. In the morning, we returned with photos, and the woman called the manager, who is also the cleaner. She agreed to refund us for the weekend, which I’m thankful for. Our cab driver had warned us it was the worst place to stay. The back half of the motel is run down and disgusting, with mattresses against the windows and broken windows. This place shouldn’t be listed on any hotel or motel app.
