The Maplewood Motel

Sam made everything easy, from my first phone call through checkout, and was very accommodating. We booked six rooms for two nights over the July 1 long weekend for our band, friends, and family: four newly renovated single rooms, one two-bedroom suite, and one double room. The rooms are small but adequate, and the price was right. They're clean places to sleep, with a nice area out back where you can get away from the traffic and cool off. The motel is right on Port Elgin's main street and close to everything you need. It's a good choice for a night or if you won't be spending much time in your room. Thanks again, we'll be back.

For one night, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the manager made sure we had what we needed. It wasn't especially quiet on the main road, but as a travelling couple we found it suited our needs and was great value.

After coming here for 11 years, this was my worst stay. The new management showed very little customer service. Even paying for the stay felt like it took an effort to communicate with us. The rooms were in okay shape, but needed a better clean. There was duct tape in the shower and holes in the walls inside and out. I know it's a motel, but I've never seen it this bad. I also felt I had to put furniture against the doors because I couldn't trust the locks. The new front door locks don't lock from inside, leaving you to rely on the weak screen door locks. Losing Rick as manager has clearly affected the place. Sadly, we won't be coming back next year.

The manager was friendly and checked that I had what I needed, and I got a clean bed in a quiet spot on the main street. But the housekeeping rooms need more attention to detail: some were missing cutlery and dishes, the toaster was missing, the stove didn't work, and the freezer needed defrosting. If you're eating out, those issues won't matter as much.
