The Bulldog Hotel Silver Star

The meal was pretty good, but the bill caught me off guard. They added a 20% tip without asking, and the waitress asked whether I wanted cheese on my burger without saying it would cost an extra two dollars. That brought the total to $42 instead of $34, so watch out. There was a bit of a show at the table, too: the waitress refilled my water way too quickly and poured far too much. I ended up with what felt like an Olympic swimming pool at my feet.

There still isn't anything for guests to eat before heading out, and it sucks, even though the continental breakfast stopped being offered here two years ago. There was also no hot water in the building for a shower on the night of my stay or the next morning. They didn't even provide stir sticks for the complimentary room coffee, maybe in the name of being environmental. Either way, facilities, housekeeping, and attention to detail need to improve.

Good price, central location, clean cozy rooms, and helpful, friendly staff. Perfect.

We've stayed at The Bulldog for New Year's Eve three years running, but after this stay, I won't be back. The location is fantastic; the rooms are absolute garbage. I didn't get one minute of sleep. The bed felt like a hammock made of springs, and I bet a prison cot would be more comfortable. I'm writing this at 6am after seven hours of torture. The heat blasted all night, and the place smelled like decades-old cigarette smoke. Seven hours later, my head, hips, and back hurt. This was unbelievable and unacceptable. They need to spend money on a proper renovation or sell the place to someone who will.
