Being able to walk to shops and restaurants was a real plus, and there’s a coffee shop next door with a great patio. The facility was very clean and well cared for. I’d happily book again when we’re back in Sudbury.
The sink water barely drains properly, and the shower setup makes no sense. The showerheads are mounted in the ceiling, including over the bathtubs. You can’t take a bath without getting your head wet. I honestly don’t know what they were thinking. See my attached picture.
The room and lobby were clean, and the front desk staff were friendly. There’s lots of free parking, and the price is reasonable for a hotel with the amenities you’d expect from a larger place. A solid choice in Sudbury.
We booked through a third party and paid $160 less than another guest we met who booked directly. They’d also come for the pool and hot tub, after checking more than once that the hot tub was working. Our own trip was a family getaway for those same amenities, but the pool and hot tub stayed closed during our visit. Younger guests had been left unsupervised there, and there’d been vandalism, soap in the water, missing tiles and too many people. We’re a hockey family too, and we know winter gets busy in Sudbury, but the other hockey families were very inconsiderate. Kids ran through the halls past midnight, while parents nearby were loud and drinking. We also got calls from the room phone from around 11 p.m. onward. I worried the desk might be calling about an emergency with our vehicle or snow removal, so I checked with them. They said the calls weren’t from staff, and we told them we’d unplug the phone for the rest of the stay. We went to the front desk several times, including after receiving a text at check-in that the pool and hot tub were closed, but nothing was resolved. The assistant manager on call, Jennifer Romas, didn’t answer the desk’s calls. Because we’d booked through a third party, they couldn’t process a refund for one night. We were told we could leave early, but wouldn’t hear back until Monday. The desk staff were candid that, given the manager’s history, a refund seemed very unlikely, and I appreciated their honesty. With another winter storm warning issued and no refund coming, we stayed. On our third morning, I asked housekeeping for garbage bags and facecloths. She said she’d be right back; we left after waiting half an hour, and the items were there when we returned. At checkout, though, we found that a bag of clothing purchases had been thrown out. The front desk couldn’t help with that either. The only upside was the cheaper third-party booking. Fun times. We’ll go back to Towneplace Suits for our Sudbury stays.
The pool was chaotic, with footballs flying around and hitting people, and kids jumping in without looking and landing on other children. Parents were on their phones or drinking instead of keeping an eye on them. Staff came into the pool area, were told what was happening, and did nothing. We were also stuck between a hockey team: kids ran around and knocked on our door until 10 p.m., then their parents drank and shouted in the lobby past midnight. When I called the desk, they said the group had promised to stop at midnight, but the two young staff members didn’t seem inclined to deal with it. My family was in town for a sporting event too, and we had to get up early. I’ve got nothing against hockey teams, but we should’ve been put in another area. If guests ignore hotel rules, don’t expect anyone to address it. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, and I won’t be back.
