Breakfast was included in our booking confirmation, but when we went down the next morning, we were told it was no longer offered. The staff just shrugged. After our stay I contacted the owner about everything, and got no reply, just as I’d had no response to my earlier emails asking about a reservation. We’d booked two rooms, but the reservation was cancelled shortly before we arrived, with no explanation. I eventually managed to book again, unfortunately. When we got there at 7:15 PM, nobody was available to check us in. The booking details said late check-in was after 8:00 PM, so we thought we were within the expected time. After I reached the owner by phone, someone came to meet us and scolded us for being “so late.” At first they checked us into only one room, even though we’d booked two. The second room was shockingly cramped, with nowhere to put our luggage except the bathroom. Both rooms were uncomfortable and dirty, with dust, grime, and visible mold in the showers. They didn’t look maintained to any reasonable standard. What should’ve been a relaxing trip became stressful and frustrating. I’ve stayed at plenty of bed and breakfasts, and this was the worst experience I’ve had. The lack of communication, poor cleanliness, booking that didn’t match what was provided, and rude treatment would make me advise others to stay elsewhere.

I paid on my Visa after booking through Expedia and getting a confirmation. Two days later, I got a text saying there were no vacancies. What? I called Mary at the B&B, and she didn’t seem apologetic at all about it.

The rooms were great and really clean. It’s a quiet, safe place to stay, and the staff are friendly.

The two people working there, a man and a woman, maybe a couple, were kind and stayed with me while I found somewhere else to stay. They were wonderful, and honestly, the two stars are for them. I’d managed to book this place through Expedia at the last minute because the Alanis Morissette concert in Cavendish had filled up the nearby accommodations. When I arrived, Mary, the owner, told me there were no rooms available and that she’d already turned away three people that day. Now I have to deal with Expedia customer service to get a refund, and Mary should have updated her Expedia availability after turning those people away. Mary, you should let your staff run the hotel. They’re great.
