Prairie Moon Inn Sylvan Lake

The beds were the one thing I didn't care for. They're very stiff and uncomfortable for me, though they'd suit someone who likes a firmer bed. Otherwise, I'm glad we chose Prairie Moon Inn and would recommend it if you're in the area. We stayed about a week, then came back for one more night after going out to the ocean because we liked the place. The hotel is very clean, although the decor is a bit dated. Staff were accommodating when we booked on the day of arrival for an urgent, spontaneous trip and called to say we'd be arriving in the middle of the night. They said it was no problem, and we just buzzed the front desk when we got there. The breakfast spread was good, mostly cold items with lots of carbs, plus some hot trays on weekends. We ate there several times. We didn't use the pool or hot tub, but the area was visible from the lobby and always looked clean and well kept. During our first stay, the toilet kept running because the flapper wouldn't close all the way. Staff got it fixed promptly.

The room was spotless, and the whole property looked clean and well cared for. The pool and water slide were a big hit with the kids, too. I accidentally booked one night short, and realized it when we were already two hours away and couldn't get back right away. Even though Prairie Moon was fully booked, the staff carefully moved all our belongings to another room so we could keep our stay. Their help made the mix-up stress-free and the hospitality really stood out.

Our two-night stay was stressful and uncomfortable, with several problems along the way. The shower fixtures were rusty, the hair dryer didn't work, and there weren't enough towels. On the first night, we found insects in the room. Room service staff initially dismissed our concern, but after I sent photos to the manager, they acknowledged there were insects. They couldn't tell us whether they were bed bugs. I personally thought they might be dog ticks or wood insects. At 12:30 a.m. we were moved to another room. We had to pack everything and relocate with my children in the middle of the night, without much help. The following day, I found the new room's fridge wasn't working. I have a specific diet and bring my own food, and by the time a replacement arrived, much of it had spoiled and had to be thrown away. I would give zero stars if I could. The stay was poorly managed, and I'd strongly advise others to avoid the place to spare themselves the frustration.

I've stayed here many times, and the staff have always been kind and courteous. When I was here with a broken ankle, one staff member even washed and folded my personal laundry. I'm forever grateful for that kindness and highly recommend the hotel to anyone staying in sylvan lake.
