Wescana Inn

That homemade soup of the day was one of the best bowls I've had in northern Manitoba. I stopped for lunch a couple of weeks ago after spending the morning shooting along the river. It's a comfortable, no-fuss place that suits the town, and the staff are easygoing and friendly. They check in without hovering. If you're passing through The Pas, it's worth taking a seat for a proper meal instead of grabbing food on the road.

I was told by the counter attendant that there were plenty of rooms and a walk-in would be fine. I had called earlier because I wasn't sure when I'd reach town, only that it would be between 12:00 am and 2:00 am. When I arrived at the inn, though, they said they were completely booked and couldn't give me a room. If they'd said I needed to book, I could have reserved one for the latest time I expected to arrive. Luckily I was only passing through. I wouldn't consider staying at this inn on a future trip this way.

There was visible mould on the old, stained furniture, and I didn't want to put my belongings on any surface. The furniture looked badly neglected. Outside, tuck tape was holding part of a window together, which was the first sign of the disrepair I saw. The sheets were yellow, thin, and rough, and looked as if they hadn't been properly washed in months. Sleeping there felt like a health hazard. The room seemed deeply unhygienic, and the hotel felt like a disaster. It wasn't fit for human habitation, in my view. Avoid it for your health and sanity.

I contacted Wescana recently to ask about its services, but the call left me uncomfortable and frustrated. The staff member was extremely rude and curt, and seemed annoyed throughout. That isn't the kind of customer service I expect. Good communication and professionalism matter when someone is just looking for information. I hope they take the feedback seriously and improve how they handle customer interactions. For now, I'm hesitant to use their services, though I think better training and attention to customer care could help.
