Hilton Garden Inn Toronto/Markham

We had no trouble finding a spot in the large parking lot, and getting back onto the highway was easy. A few restaurants are within walking distance too. The rooms were spacious and clean, the beds comfortable, and the staff friendly. Still, the hotel feels dated: the carpets in the rooms and halls have seen better days, the elevators were slow, and our room was beside the ice machine, which we could hear.

If you're in Toronto's North end for business, I'd recommend this place. I had a pleasant one-night stay, with clean, quiet rooms and friendly staff. The gym was well equipped, and breakfast was good. It was complimentary for Diamond members. There are restaurants close by as well.

I hadn't eaten at the hotel, though the menu, dining room, and food all looked appealing. The place itself was clean, quiet, and perfectly nice. The problem was my reservation: I'd booked a King room two weeks ahead, but it wasn't available. They said they were short on King rooms and could only offer Double rooms.

The room was clean enough, but its bathroom looked worn and dated. The heater and air conditioner were loud, though they did respond to the thermostat. One elevator was out of service, so waits got a bit long when the hotel seemed busy. For a one-night stay, the Hilton Garden Inn covered the basics, but it didn't feel special, and I wouldn't want to stay much longer. The online check-in was the biggest annoyance. I completed the app steps expecting to skip the desk, pick a room, and use a digital key. Instead, I still had to show ID at the front desk, then learned at 3pm, the check-in time, that my chosen room wasn't ready. When I finally got the digital key, it didn't work. None of that was a major problem on its own, but downloading the app and doing the online process felt like a waste of time.
