Being right on the Lock was exactly why we came, and we saw lots of boats. It's a lovely old-school Inn, with a clean room, comfortable bed, and friendly staff. We ordered pizza and enjoyed our stay. The little fridge worked well; I'd only suggest adding a small microwave to the room.

Watching giant ships pass just about 50 yards away is the main attraction here. When a ship enters the lock, balconies suddenly fill with ship spotters, who call down app suggestions so you can follow the lock schedule and ship details. The rooms and bathrooms are basic but spotless, and the staff are very nice and keep everything clean. Ground-floor rooms have picnic tables out front for a beer or picnic while the ships pass. I could barely hear one rumbling by at 4 am, but the view was thrilling: its lights seemed to rise slowly from the depths.

We came for the view of Welland Canal's Lock Seven and weren't disappointed: freighters and ships pass through around the clock. We'd stayed here 16 years ago, before it changed hands, and returned for three nights in August 2025. The hotel rooms face the canal and have balconies, while the first floor has a patio. Much of the building dates to 1965 and looks dated inside and out, but that's part of its appeal. It's basic, yet scrupulously clean, with tea and coffee facilities, a large flat-screen TV, fridge, and air-conditioning. The owners have worked hard to improve the rooms, and the free WiFi was fast and strong. The owner was friendly and helpful, even playing along when our five-year-old grandson wanted to see the reception desk. The housekeeper was friendly and helpful too. Rates were very competitive and good value, especially so close to Niagara Falls. I'd highly recommend it, and we'll be back sometime.

We got to watch a ship go through the locks, and the view was lovely. The place was amazingly clean and well-priced. The only downside was the quite hard bed, though we still slept fairly well. We'd like to come back.

This is a charming older hotel overlooking ships passing through the Welland Canal. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. It doesn't have all the electronic extras of a newer place, but I didn't miss them. The price was reasonable, especially for peak tourist season and a location near Niagara Falls.
