The Courthouse Hotel, an Ascend Collection Hotel

Snow had been left piled across the parking lot and walkways, making it unsafe to get around, and about four feet of it blocked some hotel exits. Inside, our room was very cold when we arrived. A portable heater was plugged in, but it gave us only a little warmth during the 48 hours we stayed. Staff said they couldn’t do anything for us. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

The staff were fantastic, and breakfast was delicious. My son and I stayed overnight at the Courthouse Hotel, and our room was clean and beautiful. The old, classic building is in really good shape. Some reviews mentioned cold rooms, squeaky floors, and no hot water, but we didn’t run into any of that. I’ll definitely come back.

My work coordinator booked me a room, and I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and helpful even though I arrived very late. Inside, everything was well cared for and tastefully renovated; my room was clean, quiet, and had lots of outlets. It’s a cool spot, with architecture from 104 years ago.

The rooms were modern and clean, and we had a great lake view. Turning a public building into a hotel was done nicely. Breakfast came with disposable American-style plates and cutlery, which felt tacky. Paper would be better than plastic, but real china and cutlery would suit the hotel much more. The path to the building also hadn’t been cleared properly, with melting snow still there. All told, it was a good place to stay.
